This painting was inspired by a view across the Welsh landscape during a storm. The sky had become heavy and dark, but suddenly the clouds began to break and light poured through, illuminating the countryside beneath.
I love these moments when the weather completely changes a familiar landscape. The darkness of the clouds seems to make the light even brighter, creating something dramatic but incredibly fleeting. Within minutes, the landscape can look entirely different.
Created using oil paint and marble dust, the textured surface allows the light and movement within the sky to come through. This painting forms part of an ongoing series exploring changing weather and those brief moments when light breaks through and transforms the landscape.
