‘I’ve always found mist to be really alluring, it feels like the magic of the night is slowly disappearing. There’s a quiet romanticism to it, the kind of calm you notice when you’re up before everyone else: a moment of peace before the day begins.

I love how this painting has such a muted palette. The strongest dark is the green of the hedge, while the rest is made up of soft greys, blues, and pinks. The mist hides details, trees, hills, edges, leaving just enough to suggest the landscape. And then there’s that crack of light in the sky, just before the day truly starts. While this is local to where I live, I feel the mist allows it to be anywhere’
